At the foot of the Alpi Apuane marble mountains, in one of the most beautiful and picturesque parts of Italian Tuscany, lies the town of Pietrasanta, an ancient centre of marble carving and numerous other crafts.
In covered or “open air” workplaces Christian accompanies and supports the technical and creative process of creating marble sculptures.
At the “Art Center Barsanti”, an international sculptor’s studio in Pietrasanta, he runs a year-round sculptor workshop for anyone interested in learning how to sculpt stone. There are always opportunities to participate in cultural events and current exhibitions. You will receive individual attention. Groups can also be organised. It does not matter whether you are a beginner or have already gained experience as a sculptor.
The duration of the course is up to you. The working hours from 08:00 to 17:00 (Mon-Fri) can be arranged flexibly.

Included are:
- Working area with 2 tables, air pressure and electricity
- Use of all tools (hand chisel, compressed air, angle cutter etc.)
- A piece of marble (approx. 50 kg)
- At least 2 hours daily of individual support for each level of performance
FAQ's
Can I take part in the course without previous knowledge?
I would be very happy to.
It is always nice to see what wonderful works are created especially by beginners, perhaps because they are still “unencumbered”. Of course the first days are hard and you have to get used to the different tools, but with the right instructions and some courage it will almost always be a success.
It is much more relaxed when 2 or more weeks are available.
Are the courses only bookable at certain times?
The MarbleArtWorkShop is bookable all year round except August. Of course my order situation sometimes forces me to reduce the workshop a little bit, but so far a solution has always been found.
Do I have to bring the material with me?
Except for a pair of work shoes, everything is provided. For special projects, previously made models help a lot, because I like to get into the heads of my students, but only up to a certain point.
Will I get my own workplace?
Yes, but sometimes it is necessary to “reschedule” during the stay, as different work areas are set up in the studio for different processes.
How do I find accommodation?
I am happy to help you find accommodation with tips, but keep out of the negotiations so that I can concentrate 100% on the marble work. Nowadays you can do almost everything very easily on the internet, but the summer months in Pietrasanta and the surrounding area can be booked out very quickly. So book in time!
How do I get my sculpture home?
We send all over the world at cost price.
